Electrify your Rayburn
The Energiser conversion for Rayburns has been developed by the original designer of the successful Electrickit conversion for agas.
It is designed to provide a cooker-only electric option for older Rayburns which may no longer be viable running on gas, oil or solid fuel. Once converted, the Rayburn will no longer have a functioning boiler, so will not be able to heat hot water cylinders or radiators.
Most Rayburn models are convertible - please get in touch to find out whether yours is.
How it works
There are two elements fitted – one for the hob, one for the oven. Each element has its own independent control, so just the oven, or just the hob, or both at the same time can be used
Each element has its own thermostat, so temperature for each is easily set and controlled by the user.
The hob warms up quickly, and you can be cooking on it within 10-15 minutes
The top oven will reach roasting temperature (200 degrees C) in approximately 1.5 hours (slightly longer for the 400 series Rayburns), and oven temperature is not affected by using the hob at the same time.
By adding a timer (digital or WIFI) into the electric supply to the Rayburn, you can control the time periods when it is switched on or off, and this can reduce potential consumption considerably. The wifi timer also provides the option of switching the Rayburn on or off remotely.
The extra controllability makes it easy to maintain or change the amount of heat coming into the kitchen from the Rayburn, so creating a desirable room temperature
There is no requirement for a flue, or maintenance to be carried out
Reasons to convert
Customer feedback indicates the main reasons for converting are:
The strong desire to keep a Rayburn while not being reliant on fossil fuels
Ease of use and responsiveness after the conversion
Increased controllability
Problems with keeping oil, gas and solid fuel Rayburns serviced and running
No servicing required
Lower running costs
Power supply
The electrical supply required for a conversion is a single 13 amp fused spur (2 x 13 amp fused spurs for the 400 series Rayburns)
Guide to Running Costs
Based on 32p per unit here are the average running costs for the oven over a 24 hour period:
Oven temperature (deg C) No of units used Cost
150 5 £1.60
180 11.5 £3.68
200 16.3 £5.22
Hob
We have not specified running cost for the hob as there are no meaningful numbers due to the sporadic use of the hob once it is converted to electric. This is further complicated by each Rayburn having a differing amount / quality of insulation in the lids.
