Christmas turkey cooked in the converted Rayburn

As it is the first Christmas we have had the converted Rayburn, I wanted to try cooking the Christmas dinner in it, to see how it performed.

We had an 11lb turkey with stuffing, pigs in blankets, and roast potatoes cooked in the oven, and sprouts, carrots and peas boiled on the hob.

I set the oven dial to 6 1/3, which corresponds to just over 200 deg C on my oven thermometer. For the first hour, the turkey was uncovered, after which I put foil over the top to stop it burning. Pigs in blankets were added to the turkey after about 1 hour too. The potatoes were roasted at the top of the top oven. And all the vegetables were boiled on the hob, at a setting of about 6.

It took about 3 hours, and turned out succulent and very tasty. I was doing it to test the Rayburn, to see if it was capable of cooking a large meal, and I am delighted to say it coped extremely well.

As you can see from the second picture, we were taking no chances…

Renovated pre 74 aga in new home

This aga was removed just at the start of the first lockdown, and ‘sympathetically restored’ before being installed in a new home, where it is now the centre piece of the kitchen.

I met the original owner who remembers it being installed, before the new owners took it on. They did not wish it to look brand new - more like it had been in their house for ages, but was well looked after, and a bit ‘refreshed’.

And Holly wanted to get in the picture too, as her spot is next to her new aga.

Rayburn 200SFW converted because of flue issues

This Rayburn had had problems with the flue drawing properly since installation, and the owners were thinking of getting rid of it altogether. As no flue is required after electrification, it was a perfect candidate for conversion. Now done and providing a consistent warmth into their living area.
